29/07/10 - Save our School Lunch!

Today in London, meeting with fellow food campaigners from the Soil Association, LACA, Sustain, and Richmond School Meals. This came about in light of the new governments emphasis on 'private choices' and recent comments by the Health Secretary about school meals. We thought it would be useful to have a catch up about what our organisations are doing to defend the gains in recent years. A really useful and productive meeting was held, which should lead to more campaigning and working to get our message across to those who can support our causes.

In Bristol today, for a final catch up with everyone before we all start disappearing for the summer. I'm busy planning the FFLP Roast Dinner day, where we are encouraging schools across the country to sign up for the dinner on Wednesday 29th September, and see if we can get into the Guiness Book of Records! Please see our FFLP website for more details.

20/07/10 - School visit

I was in Bradford today, invited to join in the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Margaret McMillan Primary school. Bradford city council were the first in the country to introduce school meals to their pupils, 150 yers ago. Many of them came to school never having had a decent meal before. The school continues to be an inspiration - and look how far we have come in 150 years!

The entire partnership met for two days in Shropshire - over 70 of us from across the four partner organisations of Soil Association, Garden Organic, Focus on Food and Health Education Trust. It is a great chance to catch up with friends old and new, and properly discuss what our plans are for the next 12 months.
