Welcome

Jeanette Orrey is one of the UK's most well known, widely respected and inspirational experts on school food policy.

A dinner lady for more than 20 years, Jeanette's no-nonsense common sense approach means she has the ability to cut through the jargon and see straightaway how and where improvements can be made. Jeanette has a unique quality that makes her as much at ease with school cooks and teachers as she is with celebrities and government ministers.

As well as her consultancy work for local authorities, schools and private catering organisations, Jeanette is the School Meals Policy Advisor for the multi-million pound lottery funded Food for Life Partnership. Her work entails travelling around England visiting schools, offering first hand advice on how they can improve and transform their dining rooms, kitchens and the quality of the meals served, so that the pupils as well as the whole catering team actually enjoy and look forward to lunchtimes at school. Jeanette is also a board member of the School Food Trust, attending high level board meetings and advising on a range of issues which form government policy.

Jeanette is an experienced public speaker, with her own special insights and an ability to reach out to an audience. Jeanette knows how to make any group of people feel totally inspired about what can be achieved, and gives them the confidence to take her expertise back to their own workplaces.

The author of two best-selling cookery books, The Dinner Lady and Second Helpings, Jeanette has produced a collection of healthy recipes ideally suited for children and families. More recently she has been working with the Health Education Trust in creating menus which can be used by schools to ensure they meet the government food-based and nutrient-based standards.

Above all, Jeanette has a passion for her work, and has the drive and commitment needed to really make a difference with the organisations she works with!
